David contacted me to paint his summer home up in Garden Bay on the Sunshine Coast, B.C. He wanted a painting to hang in his Surrey home as a reminder to get away and relax in the midst of a busy work schedule.
We agreed on an exchange – I would do an 11 x 14 of his summer home and in exchange get a weekend’s stay there. It worked well for both of us.
David initially envisioned the painting with the house in the foreground and the view of the ocean through the trees in the background. Upon arriving on location, however, I realized it wasn’t possible to capture this angle, but suggested an alternative. If the intent of the painting was to remind David to travel up there, a painting of the view might be best. I positioned some of their relaxing deck chairs in the foreground, and had the view amidst the trees in the background – a perfect representation of a weekend away.
David loved the end result and had the painting beautifully framed. It hangs in his home office in Surrey, a constant reminder to make time for a weekend away to refresh and relax.
